b. Use common, grade-appropriate Greek or Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word (e.g., precede, recede, secede).
c. Consult general and specialized reference materials (e.g., dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses), both print and digital, to find the pronunciation of a word or determine or clarify its precise meaning or its part of speech.

During the yellow fever outbreak, neighboring states began to fear the plague spreading from Philadelphia to their areas. Consider their reaction to the plague and to the citizens of Philadelphia. In more recent times, the Zika virus caused medical scientists to be concerned about holding the Olympic Games in Brazil. How is the response to the health crisis in Brazil the same or different from the public’s response to the yellow fever outbreak in Philadelphia? Cite evidence from both texts to support your answer.
